Course Learning Objectives
By the end of the course, you will…
Learn key policy elements of a state school finance system and best practices for equity.
Learn best practices for importing and cleaning data and processing it into datasets.
Develop techniques for answering common research questions.
Visualize analysis of education finance data and export the results as static or interactive tables, plots, and maps.
Learn principles of how to leverage NCES and U.S. Census data to assess and compare equity in education revenue and model the impact of changes in revenue.
Complete a capstone project that shows the potential impact of changes to the school funding formula in participants’ states.

Activities & Assessment
Lectures
During lectures, you will learn and apply key principles of school finance policy and data analysis.
Homework
Homework assignments will present an opportunity to apply what you’ve learned during lecture to your state’s school finance context.
Capstone Project
The purpose of the capstone project is to apply what you’ve learned throughout the course to model school finance policy reforms in your state.

The due dates for assignments are there to help you keep up with the course material and to ensure the teaching team can provide feedback within a timely manner. We understand that things come up periodically that could make it difficult to submit an assignment by the deadline. If this happens, please communicate with the instructor team in a timely manner to ensure you stay on-track in the course.
